Schooner's Seafood House
About This Spot
Stepping into Schooner's Seafood House feels like slipping into a well-loved neighborhood treasure where time slows just enough for good company and hearty meals to take center stage. Nestled along the charming stretch of St. Augustine’s North Ponce De Leon Boulevard, this unpretentious seafood spot carries the gentle hum of family gatherings and long-time locals unwinding after a day’s work.
The atmosphere strikes a comfortable balance—warm, friendly, and welcoming, yet lively enough to remind you that good food often brings people together. Whether you choose to settle inside the casual dining room or linger in the roomy, covered outdoor bar area, there’s a sense of ease here, where no one’s in a hurry and hospitality feels part of the everyday rhythm.
Behind the scenes, the kitchen gives simple, fresh seafood a loving touch. From lightly fried shrimp and scallops that arrive with crispy, golden edges to broiled catch-of-the-day dishes fragrant with butter and garlic, each plate speaks to a dedication to straightforward, honest flavors. The sides—crisp hush puppies, fresh coleslaw, and baked potatoes—are comforting companions, filling out the meal without fuss.
The pace here encourages savoring moments, and it’s easy to imagine sharing the Captain’s Platter with a friend or family member, or enjoying a quiet bowl of clam chowder on a slower afternoon. The blend of fresh local seafood with touches like Minorcan Datil pepper sauce offers a subtle nod to the region’s unique culinary character without overwhelming the palate.
Schooner’s feels like a place where the smiles behind the counter and the warm greetings from servers are just as essential as the food itself. It’s the kind of restaurant that locals hold onto quietly, the kind of place where you’ll find yourself welcomed in and well-fed, time and again.

Definitely a place that the locals go! Family reunion atmosphere! Staff is very friendly. We had the fried shrimp plate and the smothered pork chops. The shrimp and porkchops were very good. Some of the vegetables were not as good as I've had other places. The hushpuppies were fantastic and should be offered as an appetizer!! Would definitely eat here again!

Schooners Seafood House is truly a hidden gem! From the moment you walk in, you’re greeted by a warm and friendly staff who genuinely seem to enjoy their work. Our waitress was absolutely perfect, making the experience even better. We started with a bowl of clam chowder, which was delicious. Good portions, quality, and service make this place an easy 5-star spot—I would! Highly recommend for seafood lovers in St. Augustine!

We stumbled (figuratively) across this restaurant on our way out of town and looking for a place. We noticed an older crowd and figured we found a good spot! For those that like an outdoor bar and seating, they have a roomy, covered area. The food was hot and good and service spot on. Price was comfortable as well. Good job folks!

This a good ole fashioned fish house. Fried or broiled fish and shrimp dishes. The triple combo (shrimp, scallops, fish) was a huge portion for a very reasonable price. The fish feature (red drum) topped with crab mix was also very good and a huge amount of food. The sides were excellent and had plenty of options. We'll definitely go back the next time we visit!
